Dumfries and Galloway: Apply for a dropped kerb permit
Who builds dropped kerbs in Dumfries and Galloway?
You apply online for a dropped kerb permit, giving the contact details of the contractor or supplier who'll do the work. Work in the public road should be done by a New Roads and Street Works accredited contractor with staff SWQR qualifications, and is adopted by the council once done to standard.
Scotland has its own rules. Under section 56 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, no works can be carried out in a public road without the roads authority's written consent, so Dumfries and Galloway gives permission as the roads authority (often called a road opening permit or dropped kerb permit). England's Highways Act and planning rules don't apply in Scotland: ask Dumfries and Galloway's planning team whether your driveway or access needs planning permission.
