Renfrewshire: Road permissions and permits (crossover permit)

Who builds dropped kerbs in Renfrewshire?

To lower the kerb and create access across the pavement for a driveway in Renfrewshire, you apply for a crossover permit. If it's approved, you can book the work with a private contractor. The permit is separate from planning permission, which you might also need.

Scotland has its own rules. Under section 56 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, no works can be carried out in a public road without the roads authority's written consent, so Renfrewshire gives permission as the roads authority (often called a road opening permit or dropped kerb permit). England's Highways Act and planning rules don't apply in Scotland: ask Renfrewshire's planning team whether your driveway or access needs planning permission.
