Who builds dropped kerbs in Dundee?

You need Dundee City Council's consent to lower kerbs and amend a footway or verge, and you agree to build the crossing to the council's specification. If consent is granted, a road opening permit is also needed before any work in the public road.

Scotland has its own rules. Under section 56 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, no works can be carried out in a public road without the roads authority's written consent, so Dundee gives permission as the roads authority (often called a road opening permit or dropped kerb permit). England's Highways Act and planning rules don't apply in Scotland: ask Dundee's planning team whether your driveway or access needs planning permission.

How much does a dropped kerb cost in Dundee?

Homeowner application fee: £400. Charge for a Vehicular Access/Pavement Crossing Request (or Minor Works Application), paid before the application is considered. Amending an existing access has no fee.

Road opening permit: £190

Total council fees: £590 (construction not included).

Building it: Dundee doesn't publish a typical construction price. Councils that do publish prices quote roughly £1,000 to £3,500 for a standard crossing.
